Visualization Workshop (Apr. 2016)
The first cross-cutting activity "Visualization" workshop took place at TUM in Garching from April 6th-8th 2016.
About 40 researchers participated in the workshop. The majority of the participants were W2W ECS. Scientists from the Munich and the Karlsruhe areas (LMU, DLR, TUM and KIT) also attended the workshop.
Filip Sadlo (RKU), Johannes Kehrer (TUM) and Marc Rautenhaus (TUM) presented some basics on visualization (scalar field visualization, flow visualization, interactive visual analysis, color and perception). They also introduced the participants to work done in the visualization community.
Visualization tools that are not (yet) as common in the meteorological community have been presented. Many parallel hands-on training sessions were organized in smaller groups. The participants had a look at their own datasets they had provided using Met.3D, Vapor and Paraview.
These hands-on trainings and many discussions between participants from different W2W projects and from different institutes made the workshop very successful.
